Setting up your email account in Mozilla Mail

The following sample account details will be used to demonstrate setting up an account in Mozilla Mail.

You should replace the details used in this example with your own account information that you were provided when your account was first set up.

If you are not using Mozilla Mail version 1.6 it is important to note that while screens and options will be similar, they may vary from one version of the software to the next.

*NOTE: POP3 is recommended for mailboxes with a size limit that is less that 100Mb. IMAP is only recommended for mailboxes with a size limit that is 100Mb or larger.

    • Select the type of incoming server you are using:

      • POP3: This is the server type most commonly used.
      • IMAP: Some providers offer IMAP access, usually at a premium.

    • Enter the name of your incoming server, the incoming server is the server you recieve your mail from.

    • Enter the name of your outgoing server, the outgoing server is the one you use to send your messages. Please note that incoming and outgoing server usually have different addresses!

  9. When done, please click on 'Next' to continue.

  10. This screen is for entering your account name. The account name will only show in Mozilla Mail, so you are free to chose any name you prefer (e.g. your mail account name, "Work",...). Chosing easily distinguishable account names is only important when you have more than one Email account.

  11. When done, please click on 'Next' to continue.

  12. Mozilla Mail will summarise the account details in this step, make sure that these details are correct. To correct any mistakes, simply click the back button until you reach the section with the error and correct it. Then click the 'next' button until you return to this step.

If you don't want mozilla to download any mail from the server when this process is completed, then clear the checkbox at the bottom labeled 'download messages now'. Screenshot of mozilla asking you to decide wether or not you want mozilla as the default browser.

  13. When you are sure that all the details are correct click on 'finish' to continue.

  14. Sweet, that 's the end of seeting up Mozilla, but there's one more question the wizard will put to you.
You are asked to choose wether or not you want Mozilla to be your default mail client, this is a system-wide setting that will affect all other web browsers installed on your machine. But remember that the Mozilla browser will ignore this setting and use Mozilla Mail anyway. If your brave enough and want to change this aspect of mozilla see the "Using Mozilla" FAQ for instructions on how to make mozilla use your mail client of choice.
